READ ALL ABOUT IT:
We are so incredibly awesome (and cute, too!) that they love to write about us in the press, and any time we spot an item about us in the newspapers, you'll find the best ones right here!
WE WANT YOU!
Ever thought about being a Bradentucky Bomber? Well you can be! It’s easy! Just come to one of our next open recruitments!
The next two will be held Saturday morning, April 7th at 9:45, and then Monday night, April 9th at 7:00. Recruitment will include an orientation that covers everything you need to know about being a Bradentucky Bomber. Then you get to participate in your first practice! So come dressed to skate. We have helmets and pads that you can borrow, but you must have your own skates and mouth guard. Now you are officially a “Betty.”
Betties undergo three months of training and two tests to learn the skills necessary to become a Bradentucky Bomber. The first month of training will focus on the basic rules and skills of derby. After completing this you will take your Level 1 test to assess your progress on basic skills. After passing your Level 1 test the next two months teach you more advanced skills. In this training you will work on endurance, speed, blocking and hitting. Your Level 2 tests will follow this training, and once you pass you’re officially a Bradentucky Bomber. Congratulations, now pick a skate name and we’ll see you on the track!
Don’t worry if your skating skills are rusty. Many women come to us who have not been on skates in years. Our skaters’ ages range from 18 to 50+ and we have teams to accommodate beginner and advanced skill levels. The only requirement is that you are at least 18 years old and willing to learn! We will teach you everything you need to know. Our league members are top-notch ladies who have grown into a true derby family and we are always welcoming new derby sisters who want to both work hard and play hard with us.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to email us. For most of us, it only took one practice and we were hooked on the hard-hitting sport of roller derby and we've been rolling ever since. We look forward to seeing you at the rink!
BOMBER GIRL IN THE NEWS!! 8/17/11 - Nikita Dy-No-Mite Featured In The Bradenton Patch!
The Bradentucky Bombers' own Nikita Dy-No-Mite (aka Simone Peterson) was the subject of a very nice write-up in The Bradenton Patch website recently. Check it out:
"In February, Peterson picked up a set of oars and became a founding member of USF's rowing Crew Team, on which she currently serves as Secretary. Although rowing is considered by many athletes to be a grueling work out, Peterson still found the energy to lace on a pair of skates in April, when she began trying out for roller derby. By July, Peterson was a member of another team: The Nuclear Bombshell squad of the Bradentucky Bombers' women's roller derby team."
